Against the
Current (often familiarized as ATC) is an American pop rock band based in New
York. They were formed in 2011. The band currently consists of lead vocalist
Chrissy Costanza, guitarist Dan Gow, and drummer Will Ferri. The group gained a
sizeable YouTube following after posting their covers of popular songs by a
variety of different artists. Because of the YouTube exposure they gained quite
a large fan base, and their career as a band took off rapidly.
Structure
At this
part, they separated in six different pages with this website. Home, photo,
music, merch (an online shop), connect and “tour date”. Each page has different
function. For example, Home page is personal information. Photo is they posting
some music picture or when they traveling round the world they take some photo
and uploaded here. This website used “photo top, words below” structure. As a
user, people will felt interest with the photo first, they had considered at
this point and designed this structure as “photo top, words below”.
Interface
design
At this
part, those six pages on their website were designed as different pages. The
Music page was linked to YouTube and iTunes Store, so people can purchase their
song on ITunes or listen their new song from YouTube. In this part, this
website did reach the technological determinism. They updated their news only
via the website or Facebook. If those pages were broke down, then none of the
people will get the updated information about them. They also make a connection
to the online shore, iTunes. People can purchase they music though their page
or connect to the iTunes and get to music album. They were shaped by the
Internet technology. Doing everything on the website and the website is getting
more important to them day by day. Without the website, they can not publish
the information to the public.
Navigational
Social
medium is a effective way to promoting the band. On this website, they put some
hyperlink inside the page, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, iTunes and YouTube.
The most common
online platform in present day. People can via those platforms be able to
search this band or listen their song. But those platforms and this website will
confuse people that which one of the song is the original source. The song or
any context can share by people who like this band. Then the other will not trace
the original source because they can though the social network to get the
source. They only focus on the context. Even did someone will ask which one is
the original source, but they will remain silent because many people just focus
on the subject or contexts? Those hyperlinks were making a spiral of silence to
the people. Making a confusion mean that losing the original source forever.
Style
Many Rock
band were using single colour to decorate their website or pages. Even this one
is also decorating their website with black and writes to representing
themselves. For example, the home page, they using black as the background, white
as the word colour. That will make user clearly when they were browsing the
website. On the other hand, the “tour date” page shows the timetable to the
public. So they change the style, they put a table in this page and using
different colour to show the information of their performance.
In
conclusion, this website is able to tell people the information of the band
clearly. In my opinion, removed the hyperlink or disconnect with YouTube will
become better. Because people can listen their song on the social medium
platform. There are repetition between this website and social medium platform.
I think they can put the hyperlink on the social medium platform. That people
will understand this website was created for publishing any updated
information.
